Major Injuries In Motorcycle Crash

Sponsored by:

Groveland, CA – A Groveland man suffered severe head injuries in a motorcycle wreck in Tuolumne County. The accident happened Saturday around 4:40 p.m.

The CHP reports 52-year-old John Winkler was on a 2000 Yamaha V-Star motorcycle going northbound on Ferretti Road, when he turned eastbound on Pine Mountain Drive, and lost control of the bike.

Officer Nick Norton says, “He was going a little too fast for the turn and his bike went down and he was ejected.”

The CHP reports Winkler landed in the middle of the roadway on Pine Mountain Drive and it is not clear if he was wearing his helmet.

Norton explains, “The helmet was located at the scene, but it wasn’t on him. We’re not sure if it was maybe just on his motorcycle, or if he was wearing it, but the strap wasn’t secured properly.”

Winkler was flown via helicopter to a hospital in Modesto, suffering from major head trauma. The CHP reports drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
