New Resident Deputies On Patrol
San Andreas, CA — These deputies not only patrol the streets, they live there too. Several communities in Calaveras County will have their very own Resident Deputies.
Deputy Kyle Johnson has been assigned to the Arnold and Murphys area. Johnson will work out of the Arnold sheriff’s substation. Deputy John Alfred has been assigned to the West Point, Mokelumne Hill, and Mountain Ranch areas. Alfred will work out of all of those community substations.
C.C. Sheriff’s Spokesperson Chris Hewitt says, “Instead of, I wonder who’s on duty today to take my problem to, now we have one person identified that if somebody has a concern or suggestion they can go to that person and feel comfortable because the deputy lives in that community.”
One of Sheriff’s Gary Kuntz’s campaign pledges was to bring more community and problem oriented policing to Calaveras County. Kuntz has stated his goal is that the Resident Deputies will be the liaison between their assigned communities and the sheriff’s office to address crime and other concerns of the residents.
Here is the Sheriff’s list of current Resident Deputies:
- Deputy Kyle Johnson has been with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office since June 2013. He previously worked for Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and Truckee Police Department.
- Deputy John Alfred has been with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office since December 2012. He previously worked in Stockton as a police sergeant for the University of the Pacific Police Department.
- Deputy Wayne Newnam is a 16-year veteran of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, joining the sheriff’s office in 1998.
