Road Signs Bid Approved

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors have approved a bid by an Auburn, California company to replace road signage.

Six companies submitted bids for the sign project, with the highest coming in at nearly $500,000. The Board voted unanimously to accept the lowest bid of $258,030 from McGuire-Pacific Construction. The company will replace 185 traffic signs in the county, and 2,600 existing signs will receive a new reflective coating.

The Federal Highway Administration increased the requirements on “reflectivity” of signs and traffic devices on public streets, highways, bikeways and public roads in 2008. The county has until January 1st of 2015 to implement the changes.

The county has received a federal grant to help pay for the project.
