New Judge On Bench

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — There is a new Judge on the bench in Calaveras County.

54-year-old Hugh K. Swift was sworn in as Judge today at the Calaveras County Superior Courthouse.

Judge Hugh Swift says, “I’m very excited, very honored. It’s humbling to be in a position where I’m going to be making decisions that are going to affect the lives of families and citizens of this county. It’s something I take very seriously.”

Swift will preside over family, domestic violence, traffic and civil cases. His first full day on the job is this Wednesday, January 22. As we reported earlier, Governor Jerry Brown appointed Swift to the position last month. He has replaced Judge Douglas V. Mewhinney who retired in March of 2012. Swift is a Democrat and his annual salary will be more than $181-thousand.
