Proactive Crime Fighting

San Andreas, CA — Calaveras County has been awarded a second year of funding for its “RID”(Reduce Impaired Driving) program.

A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety for $174,310 will fund the DUI program’s Vertical Prosecution team at the District Attorney’s Office. The team will continue to work cases from arrest through sentencing.

Calaveras County District Attorney Barbara Yook says, “I am so pleased that the Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office has, once again, been awarded this competitive grant. In addition to providing resources to aggressively pursue DUIs more efficiently and build our expertise in drug related DUIs, this generous grant has given us the ability to be proactive in fighting crime.”

Last year the county was awarded a $160,000 grant. Yook says the purpose of the program is to prevent impaired driving and reduce alcohol and drug impaired traffic fatalities and injuries.
