Three Arrests In 24 Hours

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA — The Angels Camp Police Department made three domestic violence arrests in 24 hours. They say October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and these arrests highlight the ongoing problem across the country and right here in the Mother Lode.

The first arrest involved a physical fight right on the 300 block of South Main Street last Friday afternoon. When officers arrived on the scene the couple was gone. Later that day around 3:30 pm the victim showed up at the police department and reported that she was physically assaulted. 45-year-old James Rick Moore of Angels Camp was arrested and charged on several battery charges.

Also, on last Friday around 8:30 pm officers were called to the 700 block of Casey Street for a family fight. Once on the scene officers determined alcohol helped fuel the argument that resulted in minor injuries. Arrested in the incident was 45-year-old Ruben Daniel Gomez of Angels Camp. He was charged with battery, child endangerment, and lewd behavior in the presence of a child.

The third Domestic Violence arrest came on Saturday afternoon when a witness reported seeing a man physically assaulting a woman in a parking lot in the 200 block of South Main Street. The witness told police she saw a man punching the woman in the stomach and then following the woman as she was trying to walk away. The suspect reportedly grabbed her and walked the woman back to a vehicle and they got in and left the area. The witness was able to give a vehicle description and a license plate. Officers spotted the vehicle just down the road and pulled it over. 48-year old Dale Edward Roberts of Rescue California was arrested on battery charges and public intoxication.

Police say the victim was uncooperative, but because of the eyewitnesses statements they were able to make the arrest. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence has designated October as Domestic Violence awareness month.
