Sponsored by:

August 26th there will be a Rim Fire Town Hall Meeting at 6:30PM at the Sierra Bible Church it will broadcast live on KVML1450AM, KKBN93.5FM, Star92.7FM and myMotherlode.com at 6:30PM Monday.

According to CALFire Captain Mike Spears “These meetings that we are holding are intending to dispel all these rumors that are out there in the community. These facebook pages and media outlets that are using our computer systems are really detrimental to what we are trying to do here… and the information center and the Tuolumne county emergency operations center. We have information that goes out on some of these pages and it really ties up our phone lines here in the help center and takes away from the job that we are really trying to get done.”

Sierra Bible Church is located at 15171 Tuolumne Road in Sonora, CA 95370 across from Standard Field, for a map click here.

A community meeting will also be taking place at 4pm today at the Word of Life Fellowship in Mi Wuk Village.

The Rim Fire has grown to 143,980 acres and is seven percent contained. The new size estimate was announced during the evening briefing. CALFire Information Officer Daniel Berland released the information on Twitter.

All Tuolumne County Schools including Columbia Community College have been canceled through Tuesday except possibly Sonora High School.

The Community College says:

Based on the recommendation of the Deputy Incident Commander of the Rim Fire and and the Public Health Officer it is recommended that we continue canceling classes through Tuesday evening due to health and safety concerns. The Calaveras and Oakdale off-campus sites will remain open and classes will be offered as scheduled.

It is anticipated that the main campus will re-open on Wednesday, August 28th as normally scheduled. For additional updates, if any, stay tuned to your local radio stations (*KVML,KZSQ/KKBN), access the Columbia College Website homepage or call the campus main phone number (209)588-5100 and press “1” for current campus conditions.
