Sacramento, CA — The Federal Government wants to study the risk of the controversial oil drilling known as fracking with California’s help. The Bureau of Land Management will conduct an in-depth environmental study of hydraulic fracturing and other oil and gas recovery operations. That study will be a joint project with the state.
The announcement comes after an April federal court ruling stating the Bureau of Land Management had put the environment at risk by failing to consider fracking risks or prepare an impact statement before auctioning off public land.
The Bureau’s study is expected to take more than a year to complete.
