According to the National Weather Service, hot temperatures are expected in northern California this weekend.
High temperatures: 100 to 105 in the Northern San Joaquin Valley. 80s and 90s in the Sierra Nevada. The hottest days will be Saturday and Sunday with gradual cooling next week.
Low temperatures: Mostly 60s and 70s in the valley and the Motherlode. 50s and 60s in the higher elevations.
Thunderstorm chances: Slight chance over the Sierra Nevada this weekend. Increasing chance of thunderstorms over the mountains early next week.
Precautions: Drink plenty of water. Avoid outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day. Monitor children, the elderly and pets.
