Airport, County Officials Await Possible Matching Funds From State

Tuolumne County Airports officials are waiting for confirmation from the state of an 81 thousand dollar matching grant to pay for upgrades at Columbia Airport. In September, the County Board of Supervisors approved a grant agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration for over 1.6 million dollars, covering 90 percent of the cost of the project.
The county hopes the state will foot half of the remaining ten percent of the bill. The upgrades at the facility include resurfacing all outdoor portions of the airport as well as regrading and installing an irrigation system on the grass runway.
