Serial Rapist May Be Released Soon

Sponsored by:

A Marin County judge says serial rapist Patrick Ghilotti must be released unless the state comes up with new evidence by tomorrow.

Ghilotti was the first man to successfully complete the state´s sexually violent predator treatment program. He will be released Saturday unless state officials can come up with new evidence to keep him locked up.

Superior Court Judge John Graham today said he doesn´t have the power to do anything to stop Ghillotti´s release.

Three independent mental health professionals evaluated Ghilotti and determined he was no longer dangerous.

Ghilotti´s two-year commitment ends at Atascadero State Hospital on Saturday.

Ghilotti was convicted in 1978 of raping three San Rafael women. He then raped a Ross woman after his release from prison in 1986.
