Mariposa Fire Now 437 Acres, 6 Hurt

Sponsored by:

Mariposa County fire crews now estimate that fire in the Merced River Canyon is 437 acres in size, and
they´ve withdrawn their estimate that it will be contained by tomorrow evening.

Some 11-hundred firefighters are on the job, supported by air tankers
and air attack planes. There have now been 6 injuries, as crews try to get the flames surrounded in steep rugged terrain. We can expect to see drift smoke from
that fire in the Mother Lode for several more days at least.

Highway 140 is open this morning to one-lane traffic, but if you choose to use it, you can
expect 40 minute delays. Officials recommend visitors to Yosemite National Park use Highway 120 or Highway 41.
