Earthquake In Seattle

Sponsored by:

Seattle, Washington mayor Paul Schell says there’s damage as a result of yesterday’s earthquake but the
city seems to have weathered it.

Schell says it´s “too soon to tell” exactly how much damage was done. He says however that “everything seems to
be working.”

He says the city has prepared for years to make schools, homes and other buildings earthquake ready.

Screams erupted at a hotel where Microsoft founder Bill Gates was addressing an education and technology
conference when an earthquake struck the Pacific Northwest. Some audience members were knocked down by others trying to get out.

Video of the speech showed the stage shaking violently and overhead lights falling onto the floor.

In downtown Portland, Oregon, office buildings swayed for 30 seconds and local TV stations heard from viewers telling of a rolling motion across the area.

At least 12 people are being treated at a Seattle hospital for injuries they suffered in a strong earthquake that
rattled the Pacific Northwest this morning. Three people have serious injuries.

The quake registered at a magnitude of 7 and was felt as far away as Salt Lake City, Utah. Parts of a brick building front fell on the sidewalk in the Pioneer Square neighborhood of Seattle, Washington and structural damage was
reported at Bellevue Community College east of the city.
