Fire Rampages Through Sonora Apartments

Sponsored by:

Red Cross officials are trying to find homes for the occupants of six units at Quail Hollow Apartments, after
they lost everything in a one am fire.

Crews were called to the scene just after one o´clock and found the water heater at the bottom left unit had
exploded. Propane gas was also leaking from a tank at that unit and the fire quickly spread to the others. The cause of the fire remains under
investigation.

Sonora City firefighter Ed Gahmez says his unit had to wait until maintenance crews could shut off the gas before making a more
aggressive, direct attack on the fire.

There were no injuries. Officials from the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department assisted firefighters in getting the
residents of those units to safety.

The top two units received the most damage. Crews needed an hour and a half to contain the fire.
