Sheriffs Arrest Suspect In Motocycle Theft
A sheriff’s pursuit of a motorcycle rider on a narrow trail near Arnold last month has resulted in the arrest of a man on motorcycle theft and other charges.
Calaveras County Sheriff investigators say 32-year-old Bret Snider of Arnold spotted the deputy on Meadowview Road and sped away, leading a pursuit that ended at a trail too narrow for the sheriff cruiser to travel on.
Deputies later returned to the scene and found Snider had driven off the edge of the trail, hidden the motorcycle and fled the area. The motorcycle turned out to be one of two stolen from a Hathaway Pine resident.
Snider was taken into custody Friday. Snider has been charged with parole violation, possession of a firearm, conspiracy and evading a peace officer. He is being held without bail.
A third stolen motorcycle was recovered last week in Arnold. Authorities are investigating to see if it can be related to Snider. Officials say more arrests in the case are anticipated.
