Five people stranded in the Lake Tahoe area have been found safe after all-night searches in below-freezing temperatures.

Rescue teams searched throughout Friday night and into Saturday morning for a family and young boy that left their pickup truck after it was stuck in the snow. The two teenagers and two adults were found in a rugged area on Donner Summit.

Sheriff’s Captain Rick Armstrong says the four were found “cold and hungry” but otherwise O-K. They were identified as 43-year-old Rick Byrd and 15-year-old Noah Byrd, both of Sacramento. Also, 49-year-old James Byrd of Auburn and 17-year-old Michael Gangwer of Foresthill.

Another man was rescued Saturday after he lost his way while mountain biking the day before. 56-year-old Peter Street of London was spotted by a helicopter rescue team near Bear Lake.
