Indians Meet On “The Rock”

Native Americans by the hundreds gathered on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay Thanksgiving Day to celebrate their culture and continue a tradition that began back in 1969.
It was in ´69 that American Indians occupied the island, remaining for 19 months to bring attention to mistreatment they were suffering. The Indians returned for the first time on Thanksgiving in 1976 and they´ve been coming back ever since.
