Escaped Debris Burn In Calaveras County
U.S. Forest Service, California Department of Forestry firefighters and crews from Sierra Pacific Industries are working an escaped slash pile fire off Highway 4 in Calaveras County.
According to Lance Berry with the Calaveras County Fire Command center, several debris burns have spotted into surrounding vegetation, ground loom and pine needles.
Crews at the scene say winds at the ridge tops are gusting to 40 miles per hour.
The fires, first reported at 9:15 a.m. this morning, are located just west of Cottage Springs in the Sour Grass area.
The fires have consumed an estimated 15 to 20 acres.
Berry says they have fire engine crews, a dozer, plus a number of water tenders coming from SPI battling the fire. The dozer is cutting a line around the fire to try and contain it.
