Jackson Miwuks To Build Apartments

Sponsored by:

A group of MiWuk Indians is planning to build a 108-unit apartment complex. The complex will be the first off reservation economic-development project for the tribe.

The Jackson Rancheria Band already operates a casino, hotel and conference center near Jackson. Last week the band closed escrow on a five-acre section of land for the project. The plot is in Sutter Creek – 25 miles east of Sacramento.

The development will include six apartment buildings, an office building, a swimming pool and a playground.

It should help diversify the tribe’s economic opportunities, but it will also offer much needed-housing for those who work at the casino and on the Rancheria property.

The tribe expects to begin construction early next year and hopes to have the apartments available in January 2004.
