A man suspected of kidnapping a seven-year-old boy in Manteca Monday night has been booked into jail.
Authorities say John Henry Bocksmith surrendered to police in Stockton just before noon after hearing his name on the radio.
Manteca Assistant City Manager Karen McLaughlin says Bocksmith has been booked in the Manteca jail on suspicion of kidnapping.
McLaughlin says the boy, Ryan Michael Schmitt, is safe, and being interviewed by the Child Advocacy Center.
Police issued an Amber Alert for Ryan Tuesday morning after he did not return from dinner at McDonald’s with Bocksmith around 9 p.m. last night.
Manteca Police Department crime analyst Linda Silva says Bocksmith worked as a handyman in the apartment complex where Ryan lived.
