The Rolling Stones shows in San Francisco this weekend will go on. A deal has been reached between concert promoter Bill Graham Presents and Teamsters Local 85 after pickets threatened to shut down the Friday and Saturday concerts.
The promoter agreed yesterday to hire Teamsters as part of a 20-person team that will pack up the show on Sunday.
Teamsters set up a picket line at Pac Bell Park on Monday to protest a lack of union workers unloading and setting up the show. The union complained that Bill Graham´s parent company, Clear Channel Communications, uses underpaid workers to unload trucks.
Bill Graham Presents Vice President Sherry Wasserman says the company hires many union workers to assemble and staff its stages. She says the Teamsters didn´t talk to promoters before picketing – and has never before raised the issue of non-union labor at a Bill Graham Presents show.
