Firefighter Injured In Mountain Ranch Crash

A Calaveras County volunteer firefighter was injured when struck by a vehicle at the scene of an injury accident on Mountain Ranch Road this morning.

Details are still sketchy at this time but witness say the firefighter was doing traffic control at the accident just before 7:30 when hit.

According to a Tuolumne-Calaveras County Fire department spokeswoman Annette Roestler, the extent of the injuries, name of the firefighter are not known at this time. The firefighter, from the Central Fire department in Mountain Ranch, was taken by air ambulance to a Modesto Hospital for treatment. The two other victims of the initial vehicle crash east of San Andreas, suffered minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is doing the investigation. The CHP reports the initial accident was caused when a Gold-color Chevrolet ran two cars off the roadway. Exact details will be released by the CHP.

Mountain Ranch Road was closed to traffic for more than an hour this morning with motorists diverted onto Cave City Road and Michel Road.
