Possible Break In Sniper Case
It could be a break in the Washington-area sniper probe.
Police say a white van stopped today in the suburbs west of Richmond, Virginia, may be connected to the sniper shootings. Describing the van, an area sheriff’s official says, “It was specific enough to be a suspect vehicle in all the cases.”
Broadcast news reports say one man is in custody. A witness tells CNN the van was parked near a phone booth. The news comes as authorities investigating the sniper slayings announced a hastily called news conference in the Washington suburbs.
Earlier, authorities had issued a plea to the person who left a note at the scene of a weekend shooting outside a restaurant in Ashland, Virginia – north of Richmond.
