Saints Beat Forty-Niners In Sunday Game
New Orleans stopped San Francisco’s last gasp drive at the 39-yard line, and the Saints beat the 49ers 35 to 27. Aaron Brooks had scored on a one-yard run with 1 minute, 56 seconds left to give the Saints that 8-point cushion. There was a Saints´ penalty on the scoring play, but Niner coach Steve Mariucci declined it to give his offense more time to try to catch up. San Francisco’s Jeff Garcia was 23 of 39 for 275 yards and a touchdown, but couldn’t get his team into the end zone that last drive. Deuce McAllister ran for 139 yards and Brooks threw for 254 for New Orleans. The Saints had 422 yards of offense and converted 71 percent of their third-down plays. The Niners had 418 yards of offense and converted 75 percent on third down.
