Just months after wildfires raked the picturesque Sierra around Walker and Coleville, California, residents who were forced to flee are hosting a weekend craft fair and benefit concert.
Grammy-winning singer Juice Newton will headline Saturday´s show. Rick Ross, who manages the Topaz Lodge on the California-Nevada line 70 miles south of Reno, says it´s an opportunity to convince people the area isn´t scorched and in ruins. Walker consists largely of a handful of restaurants and motels and family-owned arts and crafts shops.
Ross says the fires wiped out the summer business. He hopes the show and concert will bring people back.
