Railroad crossing upgrades started today in Sonora, beginning with the Sanguinetti Road intersection. Sierra Railroad crews closed Sanguinetti at 6:00 a.m. this morning. The roadway will remain closed until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night, east of Old Wards Ferry Road. A detour will be in place, but no trucks are allowed to use it.
Next week, the Old Wards Ferry Road track section will be replaced, and that road will be closed south of Sanguinetti.
New warning signals and crossing barriers are also planned for the road/ train intersection.
Because of the detour, motorists can expect heavy traffic in the area and some delays on Mono Way during construction.
