A lawyer for the man accused of kidnapping, sexually assaulting and killing 5-year-old Samantha Runnion has asked for a delay in the case. Deputy Public Defender Denise Gragg says she needs more time to review 11,000 pages of evidence in the case. Alejandro Avila is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October eleventh. Orange County DA Anthony Rackauckas opposes any delays. Samantha was playing outside her Stanton home with a friend July 15th when a man drove up, asked the girls if they had seen his puppy, then dragged Samantha into his car. Her body was found the next day.
