Rio Vista Fire Contained
A grass fire that charred about half of the park at the Brannan Island State Recreational Area near Rio Vista has been contained. Fire officials say a pickup truck rolled down a ravine near Highway 160 late yesterday had sparked the blaze. The driver was not seriously hurt. Authorities say the fire burned 94 acres of grass and vegetation before crews were able to contain it at about 10:30 last night. No structures were damaged and no other injuries were reported.
At least eight fire departments were called to help battle the blaze, including crews from Cordelia, Rio Vista, Suisun, Cortland and Montezuma. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection also sent hand crews to the scene.
