City Council Postpones Decision On Police Funding
The Sonora City Council met Monday night to deal with the high cost of police protection. The Council Members discussed the possibility of contracting with Tuolumne County or finding more money for officer salaries. About 100 citizens were in attendance. Almost all who spoke at the meeting adamantly rejected the idea of contracting with the County, reasoning that response time would suffer. The Sonora Police Officers Association recommended the department be kept as it is and the City Council work on a long term solution. The Council voted unanimously to table the decision until the problem can be researched further.
