A sobering glimpse at California schools, most of which are in their second week of fall classes.
Only about one-third of the state´s children are proficient in language arts and less than half are meeting state goals for math. Results from the Standardized Testing and Reporting, or STAR exam, were released this morning. The tests are given annually to students in grades two-through eleven.
