Supervisors Fund Tourism, Arts
Tuolumne County Supervisors have decided not to cap the amount of Room Tax money that can be used to promote tourism in the Mother Lode. On a 4 to 1 vote, supervisors eliminated the cap suggested in Administrator Brent Wallace´s budget, as Visitors Bureau Director Nanci Sikes had requested. Board Chair Laurie Sylwester cast the dissenting vote.
The supervisors are also supplying up to $100,000 for the Central Sierra Arts Council, based upon the Council´s fiscal performance in the coming year. Director Julie Muchet had expressed serious concerns about the proposed cut in funding. The Council will start with a base amount of $50,000 and get the rest based on performance.
