Another Cigarette Tax Proposed

Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson is proposing to abandon a plan to raise California´s car tax and instead increase cigarette taxes to three dollars a pack – the highest in the nation. Wesson announced the plan to try to break a 37-day budget impasse. Governor Davis issued a statement saying he supports Wesson´s proposal.
