Lawsuits Flying Over Farm Air Pollution
Environmentalists say they want to join a lawsuit in support of the Environmental Protection Agency´s move to end an exemption for farms from federal air pollution regulations.
The Center on Race, Poverty and the Environment filed for permission yesterday to intervene on behalf of the EPA. The case is in the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The California Farm Bureau sued last week to block the EPA from establishing a new federal permitting system for agricultural air pollution. The group wants an exemption from federal smog regulations continued another three years so more studies can determine how much farms pollute.
Environmental groups argue that agriculture shouldn´t be exempt from air quality regulations.
