Fire Destroys Jamestown Mobile Home.
Flames destroyed a singlewide mobile home Monday evening on the 8500 block of French Flat Road off Raw Hide Road in Jamestown.
The fire spread into the surrounding grass and brush, but homeowner Robert Gonzales credits a firebreak he cut into the hillside for keeping the fire from getting out of control.
Firefighters from CDF and Tuolumne County, along with an air tanker, helicopter and air attack spotter aircraft from the Columbia Air Attack base also assisted in battling the blaze.
The mobile was not occupied at the time and no one was hurt, but the mobile and it´s contents are a total loss. Gonzales, who lives in a home next to the mobile, said he saw the fire and tried to put it out with a garden hose, but said it was more than what he could handle.
“I hosed myself down and went in, but it goes so fast, you just don´t comprehend what’s going on around you,” Gonzales said afterwards, looking at the smoldering remains of the mobile home.
Fire crews arrived quickly and stopped the brush fire from spreading. The fire was contained at 7:25 p.m. No other structures were damaged. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
