Woman´s Arraignment Friday In Wildfire Charges

Sponsored by:

The identity of the Bakersfield woman accused of causing the fire that grew into a 57,000 acre blaze burning through Sequoia National Forest is now known.

Peri Van Brunt is set to be arraigned at 11 a.m. in federal court in Fresno. Authorities say Van Brunt is cooperating and they´re treating the case as an accident, rather than arson. The fire is 10% contained. Firefighters say it appears they´ve saved several groves of massive trees that were in the fire´s path. Still, officials fear afternoon winds could spread the fire through pine trees and dry underbrush. 1,500 firefighters and 12 air tankers are on the scene. More than 1000 people have fled the area and 200 homes are threatened.
