Calaveras County officials pronounced a swimmer dead last evening at the New Hogan Reservoir, after he slipped and struck his head on a rock.
Deputies say he was attempting to take a running dive into the reservoir from a rocky outcropping when he apparently lost his footing. Rescue crews arriving at the scene shortly after 5:00 p.m. pronounced him dead. The man was on an outing with friends and family. His name has not yet been released.
