A Malibu company is recalling 296,000 cans of children´s spray foam that may explode when they become too hot. The aerosol “Smatter” foam, manufactured by Jakks Pacific Incorporated, is commonly used at birthday parties and celebrations. It was sold at toy and discount department stores nationwide from February through June fifth.

The company and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission jointly announced the recall today after receiving eight reports of the cans exploding, cracking two car windshields and injuring one child.

Cans of “Original Smatter, “Spit Smatter” and “Fatter Smatter” with codes “0492-P-T” to “0952-P-T” on the bottom are being recalled. The cans say “Smatter” and the word “Nickelodeon” is printed on the orange handle.
