Another fire is burning in the Sierra north of Walker. The lightning-sparked Gate fire quickly grew to 400 acres Friday. It´s about five miles north of Walker, which was spared by last month´s 22,750 acre Cannon fire. A 50 acre fire closer to the town of Coleville is expected to merge with the Gate fire. This week´s fires were sparked by thunderstorms that moved across the Sierra and into northern Nevada. The Interagency Dispatch Center in Minden reported 26 new fires. More storms are expected this weekend . In the central part of Nevada, the Mud Springs fire has burned 600 acres 40 miles north of Winnemucca. It´s 25% contained.
