CHP Reports Holiday Traffic Totals
A total of 63 people were killed in statewide traffic collisions this long Fourth of July week. Of the 50 drivers killed in accidents in California Highway Patrol jurisdiction, 32 were not wearing seat belts.
The CHP released the figures today – for the period beginning Friday, July 5 at 6:01 p.m. until midnight Sunday, July 7.
Spokesman Tom Wills says there were 14 traffic accidents in the Mother Lode region during that period. Local CHP saw no fatalities, and no D.U.I. related accidents, but did make three driving under the influence arrests over the long holiday weekend.
In all, 1,738 people were arrested statewide for drunk driving this holiday weekend.
