California Secretary of State Bill Jones is blaming the state´s more than 12 billion dollar budget shortfall on what he calls a lack of leadership by Governor Davis.
Jones is one of three Republican candidates competing for the party´s gubernatorial nomination. At a meeting of the Radio-Television News Directors Association of Northern California in San Francisco, Jones said Davis is to blame for the state´s budget gap. To deal with the budget shortfall, Jones is proposing a statewide hiring freeze, which Davis already has implemented. He´s also suggesting refinancing the state debt.
