Stayner Venue To Be Set

Sponsored by:

A retired Santa Clara County Superior Court judge is set to rule today on whether the trial of Yosemite killer Cary Stayner will be held in Santa Clara County or Sacramento County.

At an earlier hearing in Mariposa, Judge Thomas Hastings indicated he was leaning toward Santa Clara County. Stayner faces a possible death penalty if convicted of the February 1999 murders of Yosemite National Park visitors Carole Sund, her daughter Juli, and family friend Silvina Pelosso. He was convicted of beheading naturalist Joie Armstrong in Yosemite Park earlier, and will serve a life sentence in that case.
