Death Toll Reduced, 99 Still A Mess

Authorities say two people are dead and dozens are injured after a huge pileup in dense fog on Highway 99 south of Fresno this morning. Earlier reports had put the death toll at five.

The southbound lanes are now open, but it´s likely the northbound lanes will be closed through the afternoon.

The Highway Patrol says officers were leading a pack of vehicles through the fog at a fairly low speed near Selma when they began running into each other.

The exact cause of the wreck is under investigation. Visibility was reported at 50 feet or less.

The injured were being treated along a five-mile stretch of the highway.
