The County Board of Supervisors gave Airports Director Tim Deike the go ahead to apply for a state matching grant that would be used to fund building improvements at Columbia Airport. If the state approves the request, the airport will receive 81 thousand dollars in funding that will be combined with 99 thousand borne by the county.
Those dollars will be used with 1.6 million dollars in federal money already approved by the county. The money will be used to upgrade all tarmac surfaces as well as improve runway drainage at the airport. Deike expects to the grant to be approved by the state within a month.
