Part of Governor Davis´ recently passed $25-billion school bond initiative includes money for charter schools.
Republican State Assemblyman Dave Cogdill, in Sonora Friday night, says $400-million has been earmarked from the bond to help build charter schools.
“This was a major issue, a major bone of contention,” Cogdill said. “Much of the established public schools industry certainly didn´t want to see that happen.”
Cogdill noted this is the first time money for charter schools has ever been included in a California education bond.
The first phase of the Governor´s Education bond will go before voters this November.
