Storm Still Hitting Sierra
A late spring snowstorm produced heavy snow and is expected to continue into tomorrow in the Sierra Nevada, causing major delays on Interstate 80.
The snow combined with gusty winds and poor visibility to cause dozens of accidents between Colfax and Truckee, prompting the CHP to shut down both east and westbound lanes for several hours.
Motorists without chains were caught off guard by the late season snow, causing numerous spin outs and accidents.
More than 16 inches of snow has fallen at Donner Summit since the storm began yesterday. Snow also fell today in Reno. Just two days ago it was in the 70´s.
Also today, there was a big rig accident in Colfax after a thunderstorm dumped about four inches in just minutes.
Chains are still required in and out of the Tahoe basin.
