State Soda Tax Fizzles

A state plan to charge new taxes on soda has fizzled after the proposal wasn´t able to gain enough support from lawmakers and the public. Sen. Deborah Ortiz (D-Sacramento) dropped her plan to charge two cents a can or eleven cents per two-liter bottle of soda. The money would have gone toward state-funded health and fitness programs aimed at youths.
