Fresno Farmworker Hurt In Explosion
An exploding gas main sent a farmworker to the hospital in Fresno Tuesday and forced neighbors to briefly evacuate their homes.
A Fresno County sheriff´s spokesman says the worker´s tractor struck a natural gas main while tilling a field south of the city. The worker was taken to University Medical Center. he was treated and released.
The explosion sent natural gas spewing into the air and sheriff´s deputies evacuated homes downwind as a precaution. Students at a nearby school were kept indoors but not evacuated because they were upwind of the drifting gas.
A PG&E spokeswoman says service should be restored by Wednesday morning.
