Some Progress In Southern California Fire Fights
A brush fire in the Tejon Pass has burned through nearly 1000 acres near the I-5 freeway. The fire near Gorman is not threatening any homes but forced an automatic shut down of two major power lines. Southern California Edison began voluntary electricity cutbacks for some customers but a company spokeswoman said the situation has now stabilized. Four separate fires have charred about 19,000 acres across Southern California, but firefighters have made some headway. The 3,400-acre Borel fire in Kern County is now completely contained after destroying nine homes. Flames at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County and in the national forest north of San Bernardino scorched a total of more than 14,000 acres.
