Man Knocked Off Bay Bridge
A Hayward man remains in critical condition today after he was knocked off the Bay Bridge and into the water as he waited by his disabled car.
Karen Abbey of San Francisco was allegedly driving the car that hit him and an Albany woman. Abbey was booked for investigation of drunken driving.
Investigators say Joel Sesaldo was standing with Nicole Liao and Ahmet Tekin of Walnut Creek after their cars collided. That´s when police say Abbey´s car hit one of the disabled vehicles and slammed into Sesaldo and Liao.
Sesaldo plunged about 100 feet into the icy waters of San Francisco Bay. Liao was struck and thrown onto the bridge guardrail. She was pulled to safety by Tekin and suffered relatively minor injuries.
Sesaldo was lifted from the water by Coast Guard rescuers, who found him clinging to pylons beneath the bridge. He was hospitalized with multiple injuries, including a fractured pelvis and internal injuries.
