First Of Two Storms Hits Region
A wet, winter storm in the Sierra is snarling traffic and bringing snow this morning. Chains or snow tires are required on all the mountain roads around the Mother Lode and Lake Tahoe.
A winter storm warning remains in effect this morning.
A jackknifed tractor-trailer closed the eastbound lanes of I-80 just east of Soda Springs earlier this morning.
The National Weather Service says six to ten inches of snow is expected by mid-morning above five-thousand feet and as much as 20 inches of snow at the higher elevations (above seven-thousand feet). About six inches already has fallen at South Lake Tahoe.
Travelers are advised to check on road conditions before heading anywhere in the region today. The weather service says occasional snow showers may continue in the mountains into the evening.
